"The Best of Both Worlds"
The ALCÓBIDOS project was born in February 2017 due to the ambition to promote Ginja de Óbidos and Alcobaça PGI fruit, through its main component, Ginja liqueur.
The origin of the name ALCÓBIDOS arises from the agglutination of the words Alcobaça and Óbidos, known worldwide for their history and traditions, each territory over time added value to the liqueur, always having as its primary objective, to bring the best of these “two worlds” to the consumer!
The investment includes the planting of several hectares of sour cherry orchards, planted on land that was mostly abandoned, thus contributing to its environmental recovery and to the creation of local jobs. Also part of the project is the creation of a space for the production, packaging and storage of sour cherries and gin.
In the specific case of gin, the idea arises once again due to the commitment to the production of botanical distillates produced in the West region of Portugal, which includes Alcobaça and Óbidos, allowing the consumer to taste products from this region in a different and pleasant way.
Since its foundation, ALCÓBIDOS has also assumed the desire to be a space of opportunities for other areas related to its business, such as design, ceramics, glass, thus making its contribution to the promotion and development of creativity in this region from Portugal.

ALCÓBIDOS’ mission is to promote the West region of Portugal through the production of sour cherry fruit and its derivatives, such as liqueur, gin and confectionery, in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way.

ALCÓBIDOS intends to increase the credibility of the Ginja de Óbidos and Alcobaça PGI liqueur production sector, investing in the planting of orchards in these two municipalities in the West region of Portugal, through the creation of a regional business that helps to contribute to the satisfaction of the consumer that is also an appreciator of the sour cherry fruit in its various aspects, but with special emphasis, Ginja de Óbidos and Alcobaça PGI liqueur.
